On 19-20 July a TAIEX workshop on "Technical Harmonisation and Conformity Assessment in the EU" by the initiative of the Ministry of Economy will take place which aims at developing administrative capacity in Armenia to prepare and conduct negotiations with the EU on possible Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA).

The target group of institutions comprises the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Transport and Communication, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Nature Protection, the Ministry of Healthcare, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Urban Development, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, National Institute of Standards, Accreditation Agency and National Institute of Metrology.

The objective of the workshop is to provide a detailed explanation of EU legal framework for technical harmonisation and procedures for conformity assessment. A thorough presentation will be given of the following horizontal legislation: Decision (EC) No 768/2008, Regulation (EC) No 765/2008, Directive 2001/95/EC and Directive 85/374/EEC. The theoretical explanation will be complemented by a case study based on Directive 2006/95/EC on safety of electrical equipment. As a result, the workshop participants will develop a sound understanding of the horizontal legal basis for free movement of goods in the EU and be prepared to follow another training event focused on the EU-Armenia DCFTA sector-specific legislation.
